Description

The CUNY SPS MA in Psychology Program’s Day in the Life series provides students with an opportunity to learn about those in the fields of Industrial/Organizational and Developmental Psychology, the two concentrations offered in the program. In line with the purpose of the series, Dr. Juilana Karras-Jean Gilles, will discuss her path to Developmental Psychology, past and current positions/roles, her research, and how it all ties to the broader field of Developmental Psychology. This talk will be 30-40 minutes, with a 20-30 minute Q & A to follow.

Dr. Juliana Karras-Jean Gilles is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at San Francisco State University. She completed her: postdoc in Human Development & Psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles; Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology at the Graduate Center City University of New York; and M.A. in Human Development & Social Intervention at New York University. Her multi-method work centers inequality by using a structural lens to study the social development of children and adolescents in context. Specifically: inequality in civic development; the human rights of children; and ethnic-racial inequality across contexts. The goal of her work is to advance social justice through actionable science by generating empirical knowledge that researchers, practitioners, and policymakers can use to identify and rectify social systems that reproduce inequality in development.
